A trip to Grandad’s Carabang featuring Squashie

On Friday night Mummy (Alli) and Daddy (Tim) surprised us with the news that we were going down to Grandad’s caravan for a couple of days, as soon as we knew we got very excited!

We left our house just after 8pm (past our bedtime) and we arrived at the carabang (Josh can’t say caravan and we like carabang better) an hour later – when we got there we had to make our beds and then it was bedtime as it was very late.

We woke up nice and early on Saturday morning much to the dismay of Mummy (Alli) and Daddy (Tim) but what do they expect when there are no blackout blinds on the windows and there was the added excitement of a potential ride on a train!

Things didn’t get off to a very good start though as we had to phone Grandad to find out how to get hot water so we could all have a shower and when we had established this the electric went off which meant Mummy (Alli) had to make cups of tea by boiling pans of water on the gas hob – she did learn something in the Girl Guides!!! The kind man from the caravan park came and fixed our electric so then we could finish breakfast.

Once breakfast was finished we played football and drew pictures whilst we waited for the first train of the day to go past the caravan – the anticipation was unbearable. Unfortunately when the train did come Josh got very upset and started to cry as he said he was frightened of trains – it took Mummy (Alli) and Daddy (Tim) quite a while to convince him that the trains were not scary and that they go quite slow and that he would have fun on them!

After the first train had been past we went to the shops to get some food for lunch, we were allowed to choose lots of nice treats as we were on a holiday of sorts. When we got back to the caravan we ate our lunch and then it was time to go for a train ride.

We walked up the road to the train station and on the way we met our new friend Squashie – Squashie used to be a squirrel until he was run over by a car, we took great delight in inspecting Squashie’s innards and even wanted to take a photo but for some reason we weren’t allowed.

We arrived at the station and had the obligatory trip to the gift shop where the boys chose helicopters and Emilie chose pink and silver glittery stick on nails. Mummy (Alli) was still paying for our gifts when the train arrived so we had to run to the platform very quickly, we managed to get on the train in time and then we spent an hour enjoying the ride and looking at the scenery – we saw the canal, canal boats, sheep, cows and pheasants.

When the train ride was over it was time to go back to the caravan for a little rest before heading out for dinner – unfortunately we had to visit 3 pubs before we found one that had a table for us, at one point Daddy (Tim) suggested we scrape Squashie up and make kebabs out of him but we didn’t really fancy that.

When we got in it was time for bed again.

We woke up early again on Sunday morning but we couldn’t play football as it was raining, instead we watched a film, played with our new toys, read Grandad’s train books and drew more pictures.

After lunch we came back home and we were exhausted. We had a brilliant time at the caravan and can’t wait to go back again when hopefully the weather will be a little nicer so that we can stay for longer.
