Today saw Daniel take part in his first tournament and first competitive matches of the 2007-08 rugby season. Prior to the tournament Daniel and his team mates had undertaken just 2 training sessions in the all new contact rugby – no more tagging, it is now onto the hard stuff!

The team were supported by their coaches and parents and we really thought that they might not fare to well in the tournament given their lack of match practice, but despite this we cheered them on as best we could.

The first pool match was against a local rival team, Lymm, the match was very close but fortunately Warrington managed to score one more try than Lymm and they won the match 2-1.

The second pool match was against Sefton and this match was spectacular as the boys really started to gel together. Daniel played a starring role in this match, keeping his position of winger he started to chase a Sefton player as he headed for the try line, Daniel realised he wasn’t going to be able to tackle his opponent legally and put in what can only be described as a “very high tackle” which unfortunately meant Sefton won a line out just yards from their try line. The line out was taken and fortunately for Warrington they managed to gain possession of the ball – the player with possession was Daniel and he obviously decided that he was going to make up for giving the ball away and proceeded to run the full length of the pitch and SCORE a try – it was amazing to watch him runso fast and to see the sheer look of determination on his face – needless to say by the time he put the ball over the line I was hoarse from cheering him on!

This try seemed to spur the team on and they went on to romp to a 4-0 victory.

This victory lead to a quarter final meeting with Stockport – now it was getting serious and the boys were playing brilliantly as a team and were determined that they were going to win, which they did. Unfortunately I can’t remeber the score as I was too busy cheering the boys on.

So now the boys were playing their 4th competitive match of the season and it was a semi-final against Manchester. The team were getting tired now and 3 matches of contact rugby were starting to take their toll and murmurings of “I am hurting” were heard but nevertheless the team were still determined that they were going to win the tournament. This match was a real toughy and also very close, the action went from end to end and despite going behind twice Warrington managed to level the score to 2-2 with just a couple of minutes to go and then unfortunatley Manchester scored a try in the last minute and they proceeeded to the final after winning the semi-final 3-2.

A few of the Warrington boys shed some tears as they had really wanted to win, they all took some cheering up as they looked utterly dejected as they left the pitch.

They all did brilliantly and I can’t wait to watch them play more matches this season – they look like they could romp to quite a few victories!

Star Pupil

Daniel has been awarded a star pupil certificate in assembly for listening very well in his French lessons!

We are very proud of him.

Although it was Mummy’s (Alli) Birthday 10 days ago we decided to surprise her this evening with a birthday cake (including candles) and three big bunches of flowers, one from each of us.
This is the first time that the three of us have been together at Mummy (Alli) and Daddy’s (Tim) house since Mummy’s Birthday.

Mummy looked very surprised and we think she enjoyed the rendition of “Happy Birthday” we sang accompanied by Daniel on the guitar.

Mummy is now trying to find vases for all the flowers!

Despite being only 3 and 3/4 years old Joshua started going to school today. Whilst not actually in his reception year like Emilie he is going to the Bodhyfryd schools Nursery unit but he has got to wear a proper school uniform. He looks so grown up and is the biggest child in his class by far as he’s bigger than most 5 year olds let alone 4 years olds!

Turns out he enjoyed his first day immensely, having been spending it doing Fireman Sam jigsaws, playing with toy farm animals and reading books not to mention playing football at lunchtime. He even managed to come home pretty clean which is a miracle in itself being a boy who constantly throws himself around.

Not sure how enamoured he will be tomorrow when he realises he’s going again in the morning and for the next 15 years but there you go!!

Emilie has had a nice first day, well morning at school as she is doing half days for the first three weeks, at school.

She waltzed into the classroom without a backwards glance and proceeded to find her name card, drawer and coat peg. When she had done these jobs Miss Coley said she could find something to do and that Mummy could stay with her – she responded with “It is ok I am alright Mummy can go to work now” – I guess that was me told!

Apparently she has made some new friends, we don’t know their names, and spent the morning drawing pictures – one of which we have to put on the kitchen wall.

Daniel had a good day as well – he was getting to know his new classmates and finding out on which table he was sitting and also did some drawing – he was drawing Romans as that is his project this term and he is off on a trip next Wednesday to see a Roman Exhibition at Manchester Museum.

Emilie is very excited this morning as she starts school today, Daniel on the other hand isn’t as enthused as he has been before – although he is looking forward to playing with his friends again.

We have taken some photos of Emilie in her uniform, fortunately she has grown a little bit so the t-shirts are above the knee now. Both Emilie and Daniel look very smart.

This afternoon was a treat for Emilie as she went to see The Mr Men show in Manchester with Matthew, her friend, Mummy, Auntie Nicola, Uncle Steve and Laurie. Josh was supposed to come with us but he isn’t with us this weekend and we are missing him – it is very quiet!!

We picked Matthew up and drove into Manchester were we met Auntie Nicola, Uncle Steve and Laurie. Emilie, Matthew and Laurie were very excited about seeing the Mr Men and eagerly awaited their arrival on stage.

The curtain went up and Emilie, Matthew and Laurie were jumping up and down and shouting hurray along with a couple of hundred other children!

The Mr Men were having their last day of school before holidays and it was Sports Day. We saw Mr Happy, Mr Small, Mr Bump, Little Miss Naughty, Little Miss Tiny and Mr Tickle’s very long arms!

The school teacher, Mrs Chalk, and the baker, Mrs Crumb, told us all about eating healthy and doing exercise so that we stay fit – it was a really good show and our favourite bits were Mr Bump saying “Sorry” all the time for bumping into everything and everyone and when Little Miss Naughty won the egg and spoon race but Mrs Chalk found out she had cheated by sticking her egg to the spoon.

Unfortunately Uncle Steve and Laurie had to leave the show early as the noise was frightening Laurie – but Auntie Nicola stayed with us to watch the rest of the show.

In the hour and half of the performance Emilie and Matthew managed to dance, sing and consume hula hoops, jammy dodgers and chocolate buttoms!

When the show finished Mummy bought us both a Mr Tickle book so that we could remember the show.

We had a nice afternoon.

Grandad (Trains) is 60 on 30th August so yesterday he had a party which we all went to.

No one will be surprised when they learn that the party was held on a Steam Train on The Churnet Valley Railway. We had to make sure that we were on the platform at Froghall Station for the 13:47 departure as this was The Party Train.

We met Auntie Alison, Uncle Michael, Auntie Jennifer, Uncle Mike, Amy, Callum, Uncle Graham, Courtney and Jake (Auntie Carrie and Luke stayed at home) at The Railway pub and then we all made our way down to the platform ready to catch the train. The train arrived and we saw Grandad sat in the Party carriages – we were very excited and couldn’t wait to get on the train.

We boarded the train and as we pulled out of the station the party food and drinks were served – we devoured the sandwiches, scotch eggs, sausage rolls, quiche and crisps in record time before moving onto the desserts – we had chocolate fudge cake and cream (Daniel had 2 pieces!!)
We had a few trips up and down the track and we enjoyed looking out of the windows at the cows in the fields and the people on the platforms, who waved to us. After an hour or so it was time for Uncle Harry to make a speech as he is Grandad’s older brother and has known him since he was born – the speech was quite funny and we liked laughing (looking) at the pictures of Grandad when he was younger – the first picture we saw was Grandad in a dress – but he was only a few months old.

Uncle Harry’s speech was short for him – only 15 minutes – so then it was time to sing Happy Birthday to Grandad and for Grandad to cut his birthday cake that had lots of icing balloons on it and was delicious.

When the train stopped running at 5 we went to The Boat pub and had some drinks with Grandad and the rest of our family and we had some dinner which we all devoured as we had been running around with our friends on the train for the rest of the afternoon.

We really enjoyed the party and hope the Grandad will have another one soon, as it means we get to go on the trains!!!!!

The weather wasn’t the best whilst we were on our holiday but needless to say Mummy (Alli) and Daddy (Tim) still managed to keep us entertained with a variety of activities.

When we were on the site we played football, beach ball, tent sliding, Dr Who top trumps, news reporters, army and lots of other games.

We spent a day travelling round the Lake District looking at the scenery, which was really good as we got to see lots of hills/mountains and thundering waterfalls. Our trip around took us to Kendal and Keswick. In Kendal we bought Kendal Mint Cake and in Keswick we went to a lake and fed some ducks. Emilie, Jack and Sam were brave enough to let the ducks eat right out of their hands. Daniel and Josh were a little more apprehensive!

On Wednesday, the SUNNY day, we had a day on the steam train and a boat on Lake Windermere. We boarded Repulse, a black steam train, at Haverthwaite and this train took us down to Lakeside – it was a brilliant train ride as there was a really big tunnel and nobody turned the lights on in the carriage so it was very dark!

When we arrived at Lakeside we had a little wait for the boat to arrive, we were all very excited about going on the boat and clambered onto Teal when she arrived. We managed to get seats on the upper deck right near the front – not that we stayed seated for very long as standing and looking at other boats on the lake and playing Pirates with Captain Gez was much more fun!

We had a picnic on the boat just before we arrived in Ambleside. When we got to Ambleside we went to the park and we had some races – this was Mummy’s (Alli’s) way off trying to make us tired but it didn’t work. After an hour we had to go back to catch the boat to Bowness on Windermere.

We got back on the boat and all of us, except Joshua who was asleep, played Pirates again. We disembarked in Bowness and made our way directly to the ice cream shop as it sold 36 different flavours!!

We were quite reserved in our choices going for chocolate and strawberry however the adults among us were a little more adventurous with them selecting black cherry, apple pie, mango and marzipan flavours!

After the fun of eating the ice cream we headed off to the shops to select our evening meal which was to be spaghetti bolognese and more cakes! When we had finished looking at the shops we went to have a sit down to watch all the boats on the lake and to write our postcards to tell our Grandad’s what we were doing on our holiday.

Then it was time for our last trip and game of Pirates on the boat – this time we were Pirates on “Swan” – we arrived back at Lakeside and waited for our connecting train, which to the delight of Daniel, the train enthusiast (Grandad’s influence), was a diesel engine.

Friday was a rainy day so we went to the water park where we could get wet in the swimming pool whilst having fun! We spent hours splashing in the water and sliding down the slides.

Emilie has finally found her confidence and she had a whale of a time (excuse the pun).

Dan and Jack had lots of fun squirting people with the water guns and floating in the currents.

Joshua was a little reserved for a while, which is unlike him, but he eventually remembered that he likes swimming and set off paddling around with his arm bands on!

After 4 hours Mummy (Alli) and Daddy’s (Tim’s) fingers and toes were very wrinkly and we were starting to get a little bit hungry so we got out of the pool and headed off for some well deserved FIsh and CHips from the chippy!!

We loved our holiday and can’t wait to go camping again next year – Mummy (Alli) has one stipulation though and that is that the camp site has to be in the South of France!
